Since his 2020 NBA Draft to the Minnesota Timberwolves we have seen multiple Anthony Edwards Hair styles which include his
- Afro Blow Outs
- Braids
- Twists
- Cornrows
Our editorial highlights his entire hairstyle gallery as well as taking a detailed look at his hair type.
Anthony Edwards Hair Type
Taking a closer look at Anthony Edwards hair we can see his hair type falls under category 4B or 4C.

His hair texture is thick and coarse that is easily identifiable by his afro hair. Type 4 hair has the tightest curls making it more prone to breakage since it also doesn’t hold moisture.
This is the primary reason we have seen Anthony place his hair in multiple protective styles which is a solution to the listed problems above.

Afro Blow Outs
Thick afro hair is the foundation to all the protective styles we have seen Anthony do, in addition to this it was the hairstyle of choice during his 2020 NBA Draft.

Prior to his braided styles we saw him keep his ends twisted with a sponge, accentuated with a blow dryer whilst having a complimentary taper fade.
On afro textured hair twists and coils are accentuated with the use of a sponge which is simple to achieve. Follow our steps.
- Purchase your hair sponge from your local hair store or amazon
- Slightly dampen hair with A spritz
- You may also apply some of your styling product to the sponge.
- Use sponge and go in a circular motion across your head.
- Visit the barber before or after twisting for a fresh line up
Tapered Fades
Whether his afro his rounded or twisted at the ends the one constant that remains the same is his tapered sides which compliments his overall look.

His fades tend to vary as made evident by the images below, some fades shorter whilst some are longer and more apparent.
The tapered fade also draws more attention to the crown of the head which is also evident.
Braids
Outside of his signature trademark afro one of the more notable hairstyles we have seen him do are his braids which both serve him practically and aesthetically.

We have a great number of players who have grown out afros to later place them in protective styles, James Harden hair, Iman Shumpert Hair & Kawhi Leonard Hair all being great examples of this.
Protective styles such as braids help protect hair from tugging, pulling, and breakage whilst all in all promote hair growth and health.
Twists
We have seen the athlete alternate between braids and twists and this is simply due to its simplicity to style, rope like effect look whilst giving you the ability to keep them in your hair for up to 6 weeks.

Twists must be managed well in order to maximise the style before needing a new retwist which is why we can see Anthony usually sporting a durag to protect his hair and keep it fresh off the court.
Not sure how to tie a Durag? GQ created a great demonstration to keep your hair intact!
Cornrows
Whilst cornrows are also a protective style the main benefit from an athletes perspective is hair being laid flat on the scalp which reduces facial interference.

Twists and braids are both great styles and the above images show and proof him wearing them on the court, the only problem that may arise is hair interrupting during game time.
Cornrows solve this by being braided away from face thus not resulting in any obstructions.
NBA Hair Graphics
The NBA 2K video developers continue to create characters that mimic the players real life image and hair is a key component for getting it right.

The image perfectly demonstrates Anthony’s signature braids which he wore for the majority of 2021 season.
Key Take Away: Maintenance
Any of the above Anthony Edwards Hair styles requires hair maintenance and a routine which we believe should be simple. Less is more is what we believe, so start with the following below
- Oil your scalp
- Keep them in for a maximum of 6 weeks
- Protect hair at night or doing any physical activity
