Since being drafted to the NFL we have witnessed Alvin Kamara Dreads styled in multiple ways.

Contemporary athletes such as Alvin continue to be recognised by the masses for his hair and fashion choices. This is evident by his off field appearances with the most notable being Drake’s in my feelings video.

Our editorial will take a closer look at his dreadlock journey which started in high school. Let’s take a closer look!

How and when did Alvin Kamara Dreads Start?

Alvin Kamara dreads comparison (1)

How: His hair was twisted into sections and maintained with a regular twist and gel method. He also has medium size dreads on what seems to be over 200 individual locks making his hair appear full.

In addition to this if we take a closer look at Alvin Kamara’s dreads, we can see he has a taper fade at the start of his hairline before the front dreads.

When: From our archives we can see that Alvin began his dreadlock journey back in 2014. His starter locks were after his high school years at Norcross.

Take a Closer Look

Fabian does a great job documenting Alvin’s dreadlocks from the moment he began his starter dreads back in 2014. Watch for more details below

2 Strand Twist

One of the most famous styles in the dreadlock community, the 2 strand twists! Protective hairstyle, can last for weeks, used to thicken locks and low maintenance. Alvin can be seen both on and off the field in the style!

Twist Out

With the unravelling of dreads come the twist out which allows us to see Alvin’s hair in bouncy curls. He has often worn the twist out during his public appearances such as photoshoots, interviews, and on podcasts!

Dreadlock Cornrows

When it comes to dreads one of the benefits are placing the locks in protective styles which we have seen Alvin continuously do especially on the field.

With his current long length one of the main benefits of having dreadlock cornrows is that the result of this style shortens the length making it easier to manoeuvre on the field.

This is a result of dreads not flowing in a straight line but being wrapped around creating the shorter length! Great for game days!

Do your research if you want similar Dreads

While there is a lot of conflicting information with regards to dreadlocks, we still advise you to do research. The most important things at the initial stage will be to watch videos online and make notes of the peoples dreads you admire.

We should also mention that its best you avoid placing any colour or bleach in your hair for the first few months as your hair begins to develop.

Talk to a loctician and get a Consultation

Talking to a loctician is our best advise! They are the professionals who live and breathe hair.

During the consultations locitians will be able to have a closer look at your hair type, discussion process, hair products to use and avoid and parting systems.

Ensure you save the images of your desired style to your loctician and explain what you’re looking for.
