Though Jalen Hurts dreads were cut back in 2018 they became a staple part of the athlete’s image with football fans still inspired by his old look.

Today we have a great amount of American football athletes with dreadlocks, Ceedee lamb and DeAndre Hopkins hair for example, however what made Jalen Hurts dreads distinctive from the rest were his signature blonde locks.

Our editorial will highlight the reason Jalen Hurts hair was cut off, his previous hairstyles and his current look.

Why were Jalen Hurts Dreads Cut Off?

Back in 2018 Josh Jacobs shared a prior bet he made with Jalen which stated if they won their NFL game Jalen would have to cut his dreads and he did!

In what appeared to be a friendly bet Jalen kept his word and followed through with the big chop as you can see below. (Image shared via twitter)

Personally, I would never place a bet on my dreads and even if I did couldn’t see myself following through, Jalen’s a better man than me!

Dreads Tied Up

During his press tour, interviews or within his personal life we see Jalen tying his dreads up frequently which is a common style for individuals with long dreads.

This also allows you to style your hair in a way which removes attention away from new growth. As you can see in the image Jalen Hurts dreads have new growth, but you focus on his hair being tied up in the picture as opposed to the afro underneath.

2 Strand Twists

Jalen used the 2 strand twists as a protective style and wore the style both on and off the field. This continues to be one of the most popular hairstyles due to their being no tension to the scalp whilst looking great.

Let’s not forget his bleached hair makes the style that much more distinctive too! Inspired by the look? Then check out the best twists for men for similar options.

Twist Out

A by-product of the 2 strand twist are the twist outs which is created as the twists are unravelled. We also saw Jalen Hurt style his hair this way in between retwists!

In addition to this we can see his front and side taper clearer! Whilst most people have their dreads starting at their hairline the option is also available to those wanting to create a taper look before getting to the front dreads.

Buzz Cut (Current Look)

Since losing the bet to Josh Jacobs back in 2018 we have seen Jalen maintain his relatively low buzz cut and we think he’s going to keep it this way.

To ensure his hair stays fresh we regularly see him shave his head with a taper fade on the sides along with a chin beard.

This is now his current look. Can we see him grow out his dreads again? Who knows, the future is spontaneous.

Tips if you want Similar Dreads

Do your research if you want similar Dreads

While there is a lot of conflicting information with regards to dreadlocks, we still advise you to do research. The most important things at the initial stage will be to watch videos online and make notes of the peoples dreads you admire.

We should also mention that its best you avoid placing any colour or bleach in your hair for the first few months as your hair begins to develop.

Talk to a loctician and get a Consultation

Talking to a loctician is our best advise! They are the professionals who live and breathe hair.

Plus, it’s even more crucial if you’ve been inspired by his multi coloured dreads and wanting something similar.

During the consultations locitians will be able to have a closer look at your hair type, discussion process, hair products to use and avoid and parting systems.

Ensure you save the images of your desired style to your loctician and explain what you’re looking for.
