Braids

Since Trey’s smash hit song ‘Gota Make it’ released back in 2005 we have witness multiple different variations of his hairstyles. However, we will always remember his signature braids.

We have divided the category into 2 sections, the first 3 images are from 2005 – 2008 as he was a rookie in the game and the latter is from 2018 to today as he decided to regrow his hair.

Buzz Cut

Up until 2008 Trey Songz had been in the music business for 6 years before deciding it was time to try a new look. He then took to his YouTube account to document behind the scenes of having his braids chopped off.  Take a look below

Afro Blow Outs

The blow out Afro is both great for health and aesthetic reasons

Health wise – it allows the scalp to breathe and those who do the protective style for weeks on end need to release tension from time to time.

Aesthetically it allows you to view the persons density and length! Trey is no stranger to blow outs for these reasons.

High Top Fade

One of the most prominent hairstyles in black culture during the 80s was the high-top fade. This has seamlessly transitioned into a favourable contemporary style, evident by artists such as Trey Songs styling their hair this way.

While the classic High-top fade is still prominent today slight variations have been added to the look. For example, sponge twists are now included making the look more unique, something we can see on Trey Songz below.

Key Take Away: Maintenance

Braids are always going to be desirable for the simple fact that there easy to style, low maintenance and a great protective hairstyle, however, to ensure you maximise your hairs lifeline it’s imperative the proper care and maintenance is applied to your braids. This is not complicated at all, just follow the following

  • Oil your scalp
  • Keep them in for a maximum of 6 weeks
  • Protect hair at night or doing any physical activity
