In an era where skyrocketing rent prices and high property costs are preventing many young people from entering the housing market, some have found unconventional ways to secure a place of their own.

One such individual is 21-year-old Aniah Warne from Boise, Idaho, who has opted to live in a shed in her parents’ garden to avoid paying rent.

Responding to a comment that stated she “lives in a f***ing shed,” she proudly confirmed, “I do live in a shed. This is my shed,” as she gave a virtual tour of her one-room abode nestled in her parents’ backyard.

The shed is more than just a simple storage space. It is a cozy retreat, complete with a bed, a desk, a TV, and various plants and decorations that make it feel like a personalized sanctuary. One wall of the shed even opens up to reveal a view of a bamboo plant, bringing a touch of nature into her living space.

Making the Most of a Small Space

Despite its compact size, Aniah has made the most of her shed.

She has managed to create a comfortable environment by incorporating floating shelves, posters, and a tapestry that adds warmth and character to the room.

Her enthusiasm for her living situation is evident as she exclaims, “I love this so much,” showcasing her ability to turn a modest shed into a place she proudly calls home.

“Here is my desk, TV, and bed, and this is the view from my bed,” she explains in the video. Her setup also includes a nightstand with essentials, a small fridge, and a mirror to check her outfits. Although it lacks a kitchen or bathroom, these amenities are only a few steps away in her parents’ house, making her unconventional living arrangement surprisingly practical.

Addressing Viewers’ Concerns

Naturally, Aniah’s video attracted a lot of attention and questions from viewers. Some were curious about potential issues like insects, extreme temperatures, and the lack of basic facilities in her shed. Aniah addressed these concerns, stating that she has never had problems with spiders, mosquitos, or flies, even with the door and window open. However, she does need to be cautious about leaving food out due to ants.

To combat weather conditions, Aniah has equipped her shed with an air conditioner and heater, ensuring it remains comfortable throughout the year. She may not have a traditional living space, but she has certainly found ways to make her shed as cozy and livable as possible.

A Journey from Dreams to Reality

In a separate video, Aniah opened up about how her life took an unexpected turn. She revealed that, like many young people, she once dreamed of moving away to study at an out-of-state school and embarking on a new adventure. However, those plans shifted, and she ended up attending college in her hometown, living in her parents’ backyard, and becoming what she humorously described as a ‘stoner.’

Since sharing her story a few years ago, Aniah has experienced new adventures. She moved to Salt Lake City, Utah, where she spent time snowboarding in the winter. However, recent TikTok videos suggest she has returned to the familiar surroundings of her parents’ garden, once again embracing her rent-free shed life.

Finding Contentment in Unconventional Choices

Aniah’s story is a reminder that there is no one-size-fits-all solution to housing. While living in a shed might not be everyone’s idea of an ideal home, it works perfectly for her. Her creative approach to avoiding rent and finding contentment in a non-traditional living situation highlights the importance of thinking outside the box in today’s challenging housing market.

Her experience also resonates with many young adults facing similar struggles. As property prices continue to rise, and financial independence becomes increasingly difficult to achieve, Aniah’s shed represents more than just a living space; it symbolizes resilience, creativity, and the willingness to redefine what it means to have a place of one’s own.
