An elderly woman in China who believed she had a simple hammer for 20 years discovered the object was actually a hand grenade.
The incident began about two decades ago when a villager, surnamed Qin, came across an odd metal lump while working on her farm in Huangbao county.

Qin is now 90 and lives in Xiangyang, Hubei province, in central China.
Because of its shape she assumed it was a hammer and took it home to use for household chores.

She regularly used the item around the house.
“I’ve been using it at home to pound red pepper, crack nuts, and hammer in nails,” Qin explained in a video that has trended online.
The truth came to light on June 23 when workers demolishing her old home recognised the object as a hand grenade.
They immediately alerted the authorities.
