Hip-Hop artists infatuation to stand out has set many trends within the culture, 4 finger rings in the 80s, Grillz in the 2000s and in contemporary times its rappers with blonde hair.
Yes rappers, predominately African American continue to be daring by dying their hair blonde due to the contrast it creates against more darker skin tones.
Our editorial will include both naturally blonde rappers as well as rappers who have dyed their hair this way
(Spoiler Alert – This doesn’t even that many natural blondes, as if you didn’t already know)
Here are the Rappers with Blonde Hair
Lil Durk
Durk first revealed his blonde locs back in 2019 which has since become his staple trademark look.
Regardless as to whether it’s his traditional locs or current wicks he keeps the colour consistent.
Future
Since 2014 we have seen Future style his hair in blonde dreads which today has become his signature look.
With enough new growth sprouting from his scalp its then immediately dyed blonde. Similar to Lil Durks Dreads he has wicks today which he also bleaches.
Cordae
Its quite often rap members have a uniform appearance which is why a blonde rapper within a group will always stand out.
In the past we saw him stood beside YBN and it was quickly noticeable to spot Cordae thanks to his blonde twists.
Kanye West
We all know Kanye West is going to do what he wants, when he wants and that sometimes includes dying his hair blonde.
A large part of his personality is his unpredictable nature which continues the make the headlines
“Kanye West’s Blonde Hair & the Psychology of Celebrity Hair Changes”
Outside of his blonde buzz cut we have seen other colours from the rappers, red, blue and sherbet to be exact.
Kid Cudi
It seems to be that the most creative artists tend to have the hair used as a canvas as this is certainly the case with Kid Cudi.
From, red, blue, orange and blonde, Kid Cudi has alternated between different colours which is simply nothing more than making a statement.
Machine Gun Kelly
Throughout MGK’s career we have seen the transition from rap star to rock star and you know when you’re living the rock star life your hair and outfit needs to be congruent with that!
Similarly to the other creative artists on the list, we have a large archive of hair colours from the rapper. Blonde being the best in our humble opinion.
Young Thug
Young Thug Dreads have been coloured pink in support of his album, red for photoshoots and blonde as his colour of choice.
The contrast between the blonde hair and his darker skin tone further makes it stand out which is also the case with other dark skin males on the list.
Wiz Khalifia
In Wiz Khalifa’s case we saw him dye a blonde patch into his afro in support of his single black and yellow and it was clever marketing.
As the song began to pick up radio spins and views on YouTube we saw a large trend of hip hop fans emulating the style.
In addition check out more Wiz Khalifa dreads dyed blonde images!
Eminem (Slim Shady Era)
Cant have a list of rappers with blonde hair without the GOAT himself Eminem!
Whilst Eminem’s hair today in his latter years is in his natural brunette colour we saw the artist alter ego slim shady feature his blonde hair.
Any photos of Em’s blonde hair marks time which is the late 90s and early 2000s.
OG Maco
OG Maco may be the best example of a person having their hair coloured blonde in various styles such as his afro, locs and braided locs.
At this point the colour is a part of his identity and personal brand.
Trippie Redd
Trippie began to have his dreads dyed blonde very early on and were talking as early as his starter locs phase.
His blonde hair can be seen in various loc styles, braided, 2 strand twists and pineapple twists.
xxxtentacion
Whilst the vast majority of rappers on this list committed to their whole head being coloured we saw xxx brand himself with the half black half blonde look.
Lil Wayne
Most would agree that Lil Wayne has inspired an entire generation when it comes to getting locs, facial tattoos and most certainly dying their hair blonde.
In his traditional loc phase which stems from the early 2000s to around 2013 his hair was always worn in its natural colour.
Today however his freeform dreads are coloured.
Soulja Boy
“I was the first rapper with blonde hair”.
Soulja, as much as we love you, you weren’t! But what did we expect from the king of trolling!
Throughout his entire hair growth journey his hair was coloured blonde in his buzz cut, afro and braids!
Tyga
Around the time Tyga finished his hair transplant his receding hairline was no longer apparent, what was though was his blonde hair!
Tyga already knew his new hairline would have the world talking, so what did he do? give them a real reason to talk about his hair and you know the saying all press is good press!
