A family bought $10,000 worth of Disney vouchers thinking they could use them at Disneyland, and they were stunned when they discovered the error.

Andie Coston posted a viral TikTok explaining the mix-up that threw their holiday plans into disarray.

The family had been organising a Disney trip and decided to buy vouchers for use during the visit.

They first planned the holiday in 2020, but postponed because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

To save for the eventual trip, Andie’s parents purchased $10,000 in gift cards for the family to spend at the park.

“We finally planned it for this Christmas. All 16 of my family members were going. To save some money, my parents bought 10k of Disney gift cards to purchase our tickets and restaurant reservations.”

“I went home this weekend, and they were having problems loading the gift cards correctly and purchasing the tickets.”

So what actually went wrong?

They had accidentally bought vouchers for Disney+, not gift cards redeemable at a Disney park.

That meant $10,000 of streaming subscriptions, not theme-park credit.

The family posted a panicked video asking for help to convert the cards.

“We were trying to turn the $10,000 of Disney streaming gift cards into $10,000 of Disney Parks gift cards.”

“We leave in 6 days and the parks are selling out of tickets because it’s Christmas. My mom is distraught, Dad frustrated, and the kids worried we won’t get into Disney.”

Because the PIN numbers on the backs had already been scratched off, the cards could not be returned.

Luckily, after contacting Disney, the company converted the vouchers so the family could use them at the parks.

“I am so glad we were able to get it resolved, especially for my parent’s sake. It was also good to hear that my parents are not the only ones who have experienced this,” Andie told PEOPLE.

“I received many messages and comments from people telling me that they or someone they know have had similar experiences. I hope that this story makes more people aware of the card difference so no one else experiences this.”
