Since entering the league back in 2004 we have seen multiple Dwight Howard Hair styles throughout his career. From the buzz cut, afro mohawk to his current dreadlocks, our editorial will detail each look.

Having earned a reputation as the best defence player in the NBA has inadvertently created an interest in his hair and style both on and off the court.

Here are the Best Dwight Howard Hair Moments

Bleached Hair

Having alternated between the buzz cut and mohawk for most of his career we saw the athlete decide it was time for a change and debuted his high top dreads during the NBA 2019 season.

His high top dreads are a result of his shaved sides as he previously wore his mohawk and decided to keep them shaved. Today his dreads have been bleached in multiple colours such as blonde, purple, and red!

Whilst its evident he is very experimental with colour he keeps his dreads style simple often alternating between 2 strand twists or dreadlock cornrows as seen below.

Should you be inspired by Dwight Howards dreads then you will need to ensure that you follow a maintenance routine. You will need to replenish the nutrients that were previously stripped from your hair. Adding these chemicals to your dreads does damage it so seek the help of a professional!

Afro Mohawk

A tapered mohawk on afro hair continues to be one of the most popular styles for black men and for good reason. Simple, easy maintenance and provides a different look.

We have several images which features Dwight Howard hair partially shaved with afro curls on the top, this would later be the foundation for his dreads!

Buzz Cut

Throughout the majority of Dwight’s career, we can see his hair was relatively low! The buzz cut served him well over a decade and was his signature look up until his mohawk.

The buzz cut continues to live up to its strict discipline status having been the uniform look for the military men and police officers. This should explain why most rookies who join the NBA can be seen in this style then proceed into different hairstyles as times go on.

James Harden Hair followed a similar journey, buzz cut during his rookie years and braids in his latter years. (That’s not to say players aren’t disciplined once they grow their hair by the way)

Do your research if you want similar Dreads

Today Dwight Howard hair can be seen in traditional dreads which have been bleached in multiple colours.

We should also mention that its best you avoid placing any colour or bleach in your hair for the first few months as your hair begins to develop. He did not bleach his hair straight away and we suggest you give it at least a year.

While there is a lot of conflicting information with regards to dreadlocks, we still advise you to do research. The most important things at the initial stage will be to watch videos online and make notes of the peoples dreads you admire.

Talk to a loctician and get a Consultation

Talking to a loctician is our best advise! They are the professionals who live and breathe hair.

Plus, it’s even more crucial if you’ve been inspired by his bleached and dyed hair wanting something similar.

During the consultations locitians will be able to have a closer look at your hair type, discussion process, hair products to use and avoid and parting systems.

Ensure you save the images of your desired style to your loctician and explain what you’re looking for.
