One man’s final wish was to shower his neighborhood with cash dropped from a helicopter.

On Friday, June 27, around 1 p.m., a helicopter released thousands of dollars over East Detroit.

The money fell near Gratiot Avenue and Conner Street, the Detroit News reports.

Lisa Knife works at Airport Express Lube & Service.

She said the late owner of a nearby car wash made the cash drop his last wish.

Knife told the outlet he had died of Alzheimer’s Disease.

She estimated the helicopter scattered thousands of dollars across the street.

“Everybody got a little bit,” Knife said.

Anaya Toney, who works at nearby Motor City Coney Island, noticed the falling money before her shift.

“There were so many people,” she recalled. “It was actually kind of crazy.”

Toney said all six lanes of traffic stopped as drivers left their cars to collect bills.

Knife said part of the street closed for about 30 minutes.

Although people ran toward the cash, Knife described the scene as hectic but calm.

“There was no fighting, none of that,” she said. “It was really beautiful.”
